Took some Christmas eve photos for my family…This is the best I could do with one speedlight shooting through an umbrella. Looking for some C&C since I’ve only done portraits a handful of times now.

First shoot I’ve ever done. Probably will be doing more tomorrow. Some of these aren’t as technically brilliant as I would like… I was having to choose between blur from way too slow shutter speeds and noise from ISO 1600 and underexposure, or balancing all of the above :wtc:
but tell me what ye think…

each year we do a holiday card with our dogs and i figured this year i’d share with OTAP and get opinions.. I feel like the pics also show how much my skills have improved over the years albeit not by much.

in 2024, I used various lights I had around the house and as i learned last year from you guys it is obvious. So this year i borrowed a cheap set of lights and umbrellas from a friend and tried again. This is the only pic from the set i uploaded so far, but i’ll probably put a few more up tonight to get some more opinions and suggestions on what i did right/wrong.. :bigthumb:

After a lot of reading here and other photo boards, review sites, etc. I think i found my lens wish list. I find myself shooting in lots of different situations and would like a lens for almost every situation that i might encounter. They are in order of how im planning to purchase them. I have a Canon T2i. If you have any suggestions on alternative lens please lmk.
1. Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 non VC
2. Sigma 30mm f/1.4 EX DC HSM
3. Canon 85mm f/1.8 USM
4. Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8
What i have already.
Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS = kit Lens
Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4.0-5.6 IS = rarely ever use
