So for Christmas I got a new DSLR, Canon Rebel XS, in the past I worked with SLRs for about 4 years. Had to sell old film camera for bills for college, etc. Its been about 3 years since I’ve used SLR kind of camera. Trying to get back into photography for college (possible minor? maybe?). But give me some tips and tricks.

These are some of the pictures I’ve taken over my semester break. What do you think? Don’t be afraid to be harsh.

I have a few bags, but they are for larger pieces of equipment to go around.

I’d like to start taking my 5DMKII + 70-200 + 24-70 + flash around more. I just need a small bag, preferably a sling and possible available at Calumet (I have a GC from them).

Any suggestions? Not sure how realistic carrying around a 70-200 + 24-70 + 580EX flash in a small bag is, but thought I’d throw it out there.

Have never noticed this before, but when I take a shot with the shutter speed set 500 or up the picture gets increasingly cut off as I go up in speed… as if the mirror isnt making it out of the way in time or something? Is something wrong? Hope I am not being a noob

I was originally looking at a starter DSLR like the Pentax K-x or Nikon D3100, but it’s really going to be for taking pictures/video of our baby girl who is only a few months from arriving. So I’ve decided on a point & shoot camera I can have readily available and stick in my pocket and so on.

Things that are important to me:
• Above average low-light and indoor shooting
• HD video
• Respectable battery life
• Enough manual settings to give me some control when I have time to forego Auto mode

Things that are not important to me:
• Price
• Specific brands

I just found this app called DLSR Camera Remote Professional and it is :eek3:

Basically your computer is connected to your camera and you use your iphone as a remote. You can change any settings, intervalometer, autobracketing, and it shows the picture on your phone.

Selling my Nikon d80 with 8gb card, body only $425.

Looking to buy the d7000 if its in stock anywhere.

I was thinking of buying a d700 but then I would have to buy new glass.

As for light equipment I want to get a beautiy dish and 2 softboxs, should i go with a paul c buff (since i have a alien bee 1600) or should i get a westcott.

Got my EX+ D50 delivered today from keh.com, and I was all excited to take it with me to Thanksgiving dinner. It’s in beautiful cosmetic shape, not a mark on it; came with the box and everything else. Then I snapped on a lens and started taking test shots and:

they all look like that. I reset the camera, tried different qual/WB settings and everything. Fock :wtc:

keh is supposed to be reputable (I thought), so hopefully they will take care of this for me. For now, it’s back to D40 purgatory.

Tiny little thing compared to the D700 + grip. Won’t probably be using it for stills that much but will definitely be shooting some video again, which nets me a lot more money. High ISO is typical Nikon :bowdown: Comparing some old video shot with my 7D and 5D and the D7000 is definitely cleaner when up around 3200-6400. No 60P, though :hs: All in all, it seems like a great camera for 1,200 bucks.
