So here’s the deal. Got into photography as a hobby years ago when my son was born. Got some amazing shots of him with a used D70, saving us some money from studios, but then things got tight and I had to sell my whole rig.
Four years later, with twins on the way, I’m looking to get back in. Because I know the D70 well and it’s a bit discounted because of age, I want another one. Looking at ebay now. However, I really don’t have the money for multiple lenses. I will basically be taking pictures of my newborn twins and my 4yo son, both candids and studio shots with the lighting equipment I still have (for Christmas cards and whatnot).
Figure I have about $400 to spend on body and lens. Would I be ok with the kit lens, or should I go for a 50mm prime or something? I did love my 50mm 1.8…

I really can’t afford the 400+ primes to rent, but this bitch is "affordable" for 7 days.
Is it decently sharp and fast focusing?

There is one for sale near me for cheap that I am considering picking up. Main use would be landscape and time lapse on either my D3 or D300s.
Optically it is supposed to be pretty good while being light weight.
Detracting. dont know yet. checking it out tomorrow.
