Walk around lens for a 2 week hike? good 2024.

Walk around lens for a 2 week hike? good ، Walk around lens for a 2 week hike? good

Going to South America for a 2.5 week hiking/camping trip in the fall and I’m trying to sort out what would be a good all purpose lens. I’m trying to keep the weight down, so ideally I would like to being one lens, maybe two. I’m willing to spend up to $1k. My main concern is making sure I have a decently wide enough lens to get panoramas and Inca ruin shots.

Current setup:
50D
18-55mm 3.5
50mm 1.8
70-200mm 2.8

The EF-S 15-85mm IS looks great as far as focal lengths and the reviews are pretty good on it.

The 24-70 and 24-105L’s are an option, but I’m not sure they are wide enough on a crop for some good panos without having to stitch.

On another note, anybody with hiking experience care to chime in with possible necessities for a long outing? I will be bringing 4-5 batteries and several memory cards, but I’m sure there will be something worthwhile that I would never think of.

What is your favorite cheap lens? good 2024.

What is your favorite cheap lens? good ، What is your favorite cheap lens? good

Warning: this is a ****whore thread.

What’s your favorite lens that is cheap / underrated / uncommon?

I currently have a few in my lineup that you don’t hear much about, but I use and enjoy just fine: 50mm compact macro, EF 35-135 f/3.5-4.5 (push-pull zoom from 1987), and a Sigma 20mm. I have some great L primes as well, but I use these almost as much, depending on the situation.

Anyone want to share/discuss? I’m bored on this New Year’s day. :wavey:

I bought my T2i in November along with a 55-250IS. This month I have purchased a Tokina 11-16, and now: http://photography-on-the.net/forum/…d.php?t=972609

Deal looked decent when looking at others being sold.

Now I need to keep shooting because right now I look like those golfers with $2017 sets who have a handicap of 50

Anyone want a 55-250IS less than a month old? lol.

Can’t decide on camera / lens good 2024.

Can’t decide on camera / lens good ، Can’t decide on camera / lens good

I sold my XTi after owning it for 4 years this past week. Also sold the lens I had (18-135 IS 3.6-5, i think). Still have my 50mm prime 1.8.

Thinking of buying a 60D if Amazon’s 100$ additional discount comes back ($900 ). I can’t seem to decide on a lens.

It would be for a walk around lens. I usually take photos either indoors, or landscapes / out with family. Once I got the 50prime, i barely used the 18-135 due to the weight, size, and never the need (in my case) for the extra zoom. Not for professional pictures by any standards. I know my shitty skills 🙂

I’m thinking between these two lenses:
Canon 17-40mm f4L (http://www.amazon.com/Canon-17-40mm-…2694393&sr=8-1)
Canon 17-55mm f2.8 IS (http://www.amazon.com/Canon-EF-S-17-…2694393&sr=8-2)

The con’s i’ve read about the 17-55 are a lower build quality, price for a non L.

I’d love a 16-35 2.8L, but can’t justify the cost. Want to keep the total below 2k.

Decide my next lens purchase! Before lunch! good 2024.

Decide my next lens purchase! Before lunch! good ، Decide my next lens purchase! Before lunch! good

Here’s what I own:

Nikon 14-24mm 2.8
Tamron 28-75
Nikon 85mm 1.4g
Nikon 50mm 1.8D
Tamron 90mm macro
nikon 80-200mm 2.8

The 50 is fucked. Not sharp at all, been dropped a bunch of times. Still works though. Got a couple of nice shots with it at the wedding I just shot…

Considering upgrading that to the 50mm 1.4.

Also considering the 28mm 1.8

Do I really need a 28mm if I already have the 14-24? Is it possible for the 28 to be sharper than the 24? Prolly not…

What about a 35mm f2? halfway between the 24 and the 50?

This will be a $500 or less purchase, so these are the lenses i’m considering:

Sigma or Nikon 50mm 1.4
Sigma 28mm 1.8
Nikon 35mm f2D

Go.

Good fixed-length lens for portraits? good 2024.

Good fixed-length lens for portraits? Good ، good fixed-length lens for portraits? good

I’m hoping to purchase a Nikon D70S and the kit 18-70 soon. It’s my second DSLR, but it’s been a few years since I’ve used one. Also a few years since my last photography course (a throwaway undergrad one).

I’m buying this camera to take pics of my twins, due in April. As with my son, this’ll be both for putzing around the house snapping away, as well as more organized shots like christmas cards and whatnot. This question is regarding the latter.

I need to be educated on what the difference is between something like a 35mm 1.8 and a 50mm 1.8. I realize it’s simply the focal length, but what does this mean if I’m trying to line up my kids to take a portrait. Does the 35mm simply allow me to stand closer, or to include more people in the image?

Also, for either focal length, what is a good F stop for portraits? 1.8 is nice and all, but that’s a very shallow depth of field. What’s common?

Thanks all. I realize these are noob questions, but I’m just trying to "remember" what I knew a few years ago.

For your troubles…a couple of my favorites. My son back in 2024.

~$700 for a slightly used 24-105 f/4 L USM IS lens.

I got a chance to try out one on my 60D this past week and fell in love with it. I didn’t miss the extra range my 18-135mm kit lens gives me at all. Probably because I can always take a few steps backwards or forwards where I usually shoot.
